Binta and the Great Idea
i was surprised by the ending of the film. i expected that bintas father was requestiong for him to go to europe to live a life that is much easier then his own. not to ask that he could have a child from europe come to the village so he can teach him the ways of life. bintas father idea was to adopt a child from europe into their village to help him/her learnt he ways of life. i agree that it was a good idea to help teach the child some values to bring back and help influence others. sodas father dosent want her to go to school because he believes that a womans place is in the house not at school. he fears of change in the village when there will not be women at home to cook and clean for the men. soda wants to go to school so she wont have to stay in the house all day and earn a living for herself not depending on someone else. if the binta's society embraces tubab way of life they will lose the values of working no for themselves but helpping the village as a whole. western society could learn from bintas society to not just work for themseleves and for a profit. they could learn how to help each other for the better of the society.
